Briefs are the most popular and most widely worn type of inner wear or underwear for men. This comfortable, stylish and durable garment is a type of 'Y' shaped underwear worn by men across the globe. In the olden days, briefs were worn to protect and cover their private parts, but with the passage of time, briefs have become a fashion garment, available in numerous designs and colors.

History of Briefs
The history of men's briefs can be traced to 1935, when it was first made by Coopers Inc., in Chicago, Illinois. This new undergarment was named as 'Jockey' because it provided the similar support as provided by a jockstrap. It is said that they became so popular, that nearly 60000 pieces were sold in the very first quarter of their introduction.

In United Kingdom, men's briefs were first introduced in the year 1938 and sold nearly 3000 pieces in the very first week. In the UK, briefs are popularly known as "Y- Fronts".
Till the 1990s, brief waistbands were made of hard elastic, which resulted in causing stretch marks to the wearer, as a result, they were replaced with soft elastic waist bands for more comfort. This also clearly indicates that while earlier on, stress was laid on the durability of the garments now, more stress is laid on the comfort.

Technological advancement has also enabled discovery of new fabrics that ensure utmost comfort to the wearer. As a result, briefs are now being increasingly made from stretch-microfiber.
