History of Sunglasses
The history of sunglasses dates back to the 12th century in China. The Chinese first used lenses made of quartz to protect the eyes of people from sun rays and glare. According to historians, certain countries also used these glasses for hiding their facial expressions while passing a judgment.

Initially these shades were used only for functional purpose, but with the passage of time, sun glasses became a necessary accessory for men. Several designs and types of sun shades were popular during different time periods. The use of this fashion accessory became popular among people during the 19th century, with more and more celebrities and influential people using them to avoid being recognized.

  • Mirrorshades: These sunshades have a mirrored coating on their surface. Also known as cop shades, this accessory was first worn by police officers in the U.S.A and since then these sunglasses have been popular with men of different ages.

  • Aviators: These sunglasses comprise of thin metal frame and a large-sized tear drop shape lens. These shades were first designed by Ran Ban company in the year 1936 for the U.S aviators and thus became popularly known as the 'Aviators'. These sun shades make a fashion statement and are available in different models including mirrored, colored and wrap around. After the 1970s the model has again become popular in current times due to renewed interest in retro fashion.

  • Wayfarers: These sunglasses were introduces in the year 1950 by Ray Ban and were quite popular among film celebrities. These sunglasses were quite popular during 1970s and 80s.

  • Teashades: These sunglasses are generally worn for fashion and aesthetics reasons and consist of a metallic wire rim. These shade have dark glasses and make a fashion statement.

  • Glacier Glasses: These sunglasses have circular lenses and leather blinders around the edge of the lens for protecting the eyes from harsh sun's rays. These shades offer greater protection from sun as compared to other shades and are hence often used while travelling across snowy places and glaciers.



Current Trends in Men's Sunglasses
After the 1970s, masculine shades including Aviators are seeing a comeback and are high in demand. Medium and Big frames are in fashion, but should be chosen keeping in mind the size of the face and body frame.
Rimless and semi-rimmed sunglasses are also invogue. The demand for such shades is quite high in the international market. Light weight plastic frames are also in fashion and being worn by youngsters. Designer sunglasses are also in high demand among fashion conscious.
