History of Tuxedo
Tuxedos gained popularity as a formal men's wear during the early twentieth century. According to historians, tuxedo was considered to be a men's semi-formal wear before that. The upper strata in the beginning of the 20th century preferred to wear black frock coats with tail and grey striped trousers to go with it. The attire also consisted of a white waist coat, white waist shirt. These black coats were worn with black silk hats and was the most popular formal wear for men in those days.

It was only during the early 20th century that rich people living around the famous Tuxedo Park in NewYork simplified the black frock coats and chose to wear tuxedos in black color. The jackets also known as the 'tuxedo jackets' became a hot favorite men's wear.

During that time the rich people got their tuxedos made from private tailors and it was only in the latter half of the century that tuxedos were made available to the men in standard sizes. These tuxedos were very expensive and could be afforded by a handful.
